LaView Wifi Camera Setup Guide

A step-by-step guide to setting up any LaView Wi-Fi camera, from creating your account to completing the connection.

This guide applies to all LaView cameras.

To get started, you will need:

  • A smartphone or tablet
  • Your 2.4G Wi-Fi network name and password

The setup should take about 5 minutes.

Steps

Download the LaView App from the Google Play Store or the Apple App Store.

Once downloaded, open the LaView app and login or create an account.

To create a new account:

  • Tap Register on the app screen.
  • Enter your email address, then tap Get Verification Code.
  • Our App will send a one-time verification code to your email. Check the email you provided and enter the verification code.
  • Next, set a password for your account.
  • Hit Done and now your account is created.

If you have power saving settings on your phone, the app may give you a notice about "auto-starting". If you want to have the fastest updates from your camera, you will want to allow the LaView app to always run in the background in your phone settings.

Connect your phone to your 2.4GHz Wi-Fi network and have your Wi-Fi password ready.

Plug in the camera using the supplied USB cable and power adapter. When setting up your camera, make sure to use the included USB cable and power adapter. This will ensure the right amount of power is going to the camera and prevent performance issues.

The LED light will be a solid red light to tell you the camera has power. Once the light starts flashing, and you hear a sound notification, your camera is ready for setup.

Adding a new device in the LaView App. In the LaView app, press the + button in the top right corner and choose Add device. From the options available, choose the according camera icon or Smart Camera, then click Next if the camera indicator light is flashing.

On the next screen, if your phone is connected to your 2.4G Wi-Fi network, it will display your Wi-Fi network name. Then enter your Wi-Fi password correctly. Be sure your phone is connecting to the 2.4Ghz band on your Wi-Fi router.

LaView cameras only work on 2.4GHz Wi-Fi networks. They do not work on 5GHz networks. Most Wi-Fi routers that are 5GHz also have a 2.4GHz band as well. Make sure you are not connected to "Wi-Fi name 5GHz".

Scanning the QR Code. On the next screen, the app screen displays a QR code. Face the lens of your camera toward the QR code on your phone. The camera will scan the QR code and you will hear an audible prompt. If you are having trouble scanning the QR code:

  • Hold the phone steady about 5 inches in front of your camera. It may take a few seconds for the camera to scan the code.
  • If it does not scan, change the distance between your phone and the camera slightly and hold both steady. Keep adjusting the distance until the camera scans the code, but hold at each new distance for a couple of seconds to let the camera adjust.
  • If it still does not scan, tilt the screen slightly in case there are light reflections not allowing the camera to see the QR code correctly. LED lights can cause reflections that stop the QR code from being scanned easily.
  • Cracks or scratches on the screen can distort the QR code. Try again using a phone or tablet that does not have a cracked screen.

If you have an iOS device, temporarily toggle off "smart invert" or "classic invert" while you are scanning the QR code. This will help ensure the QR code can be scanned properly during setup.

Finishing the setup. Once you hear the prompt, tap the button in the LaView app.

The LaView app will then complete the setup.

The LED light indicator on the front will flash blue, then go to a solid blue when setup is complete.

The app will add the camera to your account and you can simply tap on your device to view the live feed.
